NBCUniversal came to Ellebridge, seeking strategic communication and change management leadership as it worked to transition 43,000 employees – from dozens of business units around the world – to a single platform, Microsoft Office 365. Ellebridge accepted the challenge, bridging the needs for technology, HR and communications teams across the company. We embedded ourselves with our client, as if our team worked for NBCU full-time. (And we still served several other clients!)
Keeping It Simple
NBCUniversal needed to conduct the massive, global Office 365 rollout with speed, agility, and limited interruption to day-to-day business operations. Within the first week of being on the project, Ellebridge crafted an approved plan to align communication needs/goals from several key stakeholders. We focused on reducing the clutter and simplifying the message – a challenge with so many custom processes/systems. Once we had the overarching strategy and cross-functional alignment in place, Ellebridge brought on a communication coordinator to drive ongoing tactical needs over the course of the 15-month project.
In fact, this cross-IT department feat is recognized by Microsoft as one of the quickest they have seen, while also keeping the company’s business interests at the forefront. And the NBCUniversal team – with strategic and tactical communication support from Ellebridge – accomplished this ahead of schedule.

How We Did It In Record Time
Technology teams communicate best with employees when we can build strong partnerships with HR and marketing/communication leaders. Ellebridge worked tirelessly to bridge gaps when present, keeping teams informed and giving them a voice. This organic buy-in helped us maintain a single message, while leveraging local business unit leaders to support our goals – and everyone won. Whether accommodating News teams during breaking news cycles or shifting schedules to assist employees in Europe or Asia, we got the job done. Also, we’re really good at what we do (and speaking “tech”).
Flexing When Needed
And, when the team needed on-demand dedicated trainers, we worked with the NBCU Office 365 team to build a custom training session. Ellebridge led the trainings, becoming so familiar with the product that we regularly conducted Q&A sessions.
